As we get closer to the end of the school year, I wanted to share several opportunities that are available to you.
First, we have totally redone the SCCSS website
www.sccss.apricot.org
This was done in efforts to make it more of a teacher tool and place to visit for up to date information about events, Professional Development opportunities. The Council has envisioned a website that Social Studies Educators would visit for information relating to our discipline. Please share your thoughts with me about information you would like to see more of at lesliecarter80@me.com
Do you know about the 2 major battles fought in SC that had a major effect on the success of the American Revolution? We are pleased to announce the first “Teachers in the Field” Experience at Cowpens and Kings Mountain Battlefields. Robert W. Brown, Jr., Expert and published author on the topics will lead us on a knowledgable tour of the sites and participants will receive a copy of his book. You will not want to miss this on May 3, 2014. Registration is now open and this is something you will not want to miss!
Everyday, amazing educational learning occurs in Social Studies classrooms across our state. I am going to challenge you to nominate a fellow teacher, program of study, and or student for an award. I am also going to challenge you to present at our upcoming conference. Was there a topic you thought should have been addressed? Did you walk away and think, “Wow, I could share my activity that relates!” There is amazing leadership in our state and it is time to utilize those skills. If you are interested in running for a position on the board, or helping out in any capacity, please contact me or check the website for updates.
Good luck as we move into testing season. I am right there in the trenches with you. Please accept my challenge and nominate and present!
Thanks for all you do everyday to improve Social Studies education across our state- YOU are making a difference!
